Our Story: Dennis Kastrup
I am a journalist, podcaster and storyteller. I have always been interested in people. I have enjoyed listening to other people's stories since I was a child. This passion led me to journalism.
Over the past 25 years, I have conducted around 1500 interviews with scientists, politicians and artists, including Lady Gaga, Tori Amos, Lenny Kravitz, Kylie Minogue and Adele. I have written articles for magazines such as Spiegel Online and Tagesspiegel. Today I work for public radio stations in Germany and Canada. I speak fluent English, German and French.
How it all started
In autumn 2021, a good friend told me that he had cancer. He asked me, as a journalist: "Could you record my
life story for my one-year-old son? I want to tell him as much as about me as much as possible because
I don't know how long I will live." I didn't have to think long before I agreed. I could feel how important
this was for him. After that I made an appointment with him every month so I could talk to him.
Lieber Enno
All the conversations were recorded. Unfortunately, he passed away six months later. Our recordings resulted in a one-hour feature entitled ‘Dear Enno’, which was intended for his son and was broadcast by NDR (in German). One day, when Enno is old enough, I will show him this audio document recorded by his father's recording. This experience was not only important and formative for my friend, but also for me.
Life Story Audio was launched to give people the opportunity to leave
their life stories to loved ones as a specially designed audiobook.
"We all have a story to tell. Some become writers and others set them to music as audiobooks." (Dennis Kastrup)
